Biography

David was born in Dunoon, Scotland in 1960. Artists such as Neil Sedaka, Aretha Franklin, The Isley Brothers and Stevie Wonder being among his earliest musical influences. At the age of nineteen he moved to The Netherlands and, after four years, he began working as a professional musician. With his cover band Avenue he played at a multitude of venues in The Netherlands and Germany over a period of ten years. Band guitarist Eddie Mulder and David often spent free time writing their own compositions. This ultimately resulted in Avenue’s success, winning a Dutch TV award for best band. Two singles were released on the Mercury record label by Phonogram Records in 1989 as a result. A special television performance recorded in Singapore was also broadcast on Dutch TV, along with a score of other TV and radio performances including Belgian TV around the same time. David also worked with a number of co-musicians on two further projects, Plan B and Promises Promises.

Nowadays, David enjoys working during the day at a secondary school as a Teacher of English where, he says ‘there are so many talented pupils regarding music, dance and art, which I find truly inspirational.’ In the evenings and at the weekends, however, he devotes a lot of his time to songwriting. This has culminated in his most recent project, David’s debut solo CD which will be released this Autumn. His vocal sound together with the mood of his songs is often compared, but with its own twist, to the likes of the versatile singer/songwriter Paul Carrack and Mick Hucknall of Simply Red fame.

David lives in the city of Haarlem in The Netherlands, but also spends much time at his second home in Kuşadası, Turkey.
